DESCRIPTION OF WORKS
Ford Civil have been engaged by Lendlease Developments to complete the design and construct remediation works for the Dunheved Industrial precinct.
The remediation works mark the first phase in transforming the approximately 30-hectare site into a prime industrial and logistics precinct. The remediation works are currently underway and expected to be completed mid to late 2026.
The project has gained the following relevant approvals:
• Blacktown City Council: Development Application Number DA-22-00767
• Penrith City Council: Development Application Number DA22/0404
• EPA: Environmental Protection Licence (EPL) Number 21995 (refer below link for the Pollution Incident Response Management Plan)
The project involves the excavation, relocation and capping of circa 180,000m3 of contaminated soils, inclusive of 4000m3 of bonded asbestos. Three large containment cells will be excavated onsite to facilitate the burial and capping of the contaminated soils. The capping will consist of a hybrid marker layer /geosynthetic clay liner (GCL), followed by a 1.5m site won clay capping layer. All works will be validated under the full-time supervision of the Environmental/Validation Consultant.
Other works to be completed during the remediation phase includes, the installation of a 4 x 900mm diameter stormwater main with cast insitu pits and headwall, bush regeneration and landscaping works.
KEY FEATURES
• Onsite containment of 180,000m3 of PFAS & Hydrocarbon impacted soils within three containment cells capped with a hybrid marker layer/geosynthetic clay liner and 1.5m site won low permeability clay capping layer.
• Onsite containment of 4,000m3 of bonded asbestos in soils within the containment cell.
• Remediation of Dunheved Open Channel and diversion of PFAS impacted surface water by Installation of a 4 x 900mm diameter HDPE pipelines with cast insitu pits and headwall.
• Bush regeneration works in accordance with the VMP and Ecologist requirements.
• Landscape works of the Riparian Corridor
• Engagement and management of Level One Geotechnical Consultant and Third-Party Geotechnical Auditing.
• Engagement and management of Environmental/Validation Consultant.
